Bluffton Bests Volleyball 3-0

WILMINGTON, Ohio - Bluffton University hit a .328 attack percentage in a sweep (25-18, 25-17, 25-8) of the Wilmington College volleyball team on Wednesday evening.

The Fightin' Quakers hung with the Beavers in each of the first two sets until the midpoint when Bluffton took control. In set one, Wilmington trailing 13-10 only to see the visitors go on a 9-3 run to take the set. In set two, the Quakers held the lead in the early stages and took 14-12 edge after a service ace from Grace Ewing. Similar to set one, however, Bluffton rattled nine of the next 11 points to go up two sets to none.

The Beavers, who tallied 20 kills on 42 attack attempts in each of the first two sets, got out to a 15-2 lead in set three and never looked back.

Bluffton (6-7) tallied 55 kills in the match including 41 that were assisted by senior setter Erin Weisgarber. Jessie Gibson was the lone individual to record double digits in kills with 11 while Bethany Martini had nine along with Sarah Heydinger and Remi Bower who had eight for the Beavers.

Jillian Wesco and Taylor McCuistion both had six kills to lead Wilmington. Jacie Koontz and Grace Ewing combined for 13 assists while Karley Schlensker added 16 digs.

Wilmington (1-12) has a quick turnaround as it faces Central State University tomorrow (Thursday) at 7 p.m.
