Volleyball falls to Berea in straight sets

The Wilmington College volleyball team fell in straight sets (25-15, 25-23, 27-25) to Berea Wednesday at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.

After only having four kills with a -0.91 hitting percentage in the first set, Wilmington recorded 11 kills in each of the next two sets. The Fightin' Quakers led late in each of the last two sets, but couldn't quite close out the Mountaineers.

Leading 20-19 in the second set, back-to-back receiving errors gave Berea the momentum, and BC finished the set, 25-23. Wilmington trailed by five late in the third, but the Fightin' Quakers scored five consecutive points to pull even. The teams traded points, but Berea tallied the final two points to seal the win.

Sophomore Catlin Pauley (Kenton, OH/Riverdale) led the way with 10 kills on 25 attempts with just three kills, while senior Tabby Biegler (Columbus, OH/Briggs) added seven kills on 16 attempts.

Junior Ariana Neff (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) distributed a team-high 16 assists. Senior McKenzie Kilburn (Huber Heights, OH/Wayne) was a force at the net with three solo blocks and an assisted block. Freshman Kaleigh Trevino (Vandalia, OH/Butler) had a team-high six digs.

Wilmington (2-13) has a quick turnaround, traveling to Ohio Christian 7 p.m. Thursday.
