Miller, Pauley provide offense in 3-0 loss

The Wilmington College volleyball team fell in straight sets Wednesday in non-conference action to Franklin, 25-11, 26-24, 25-9, at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.

Wilmington committed double-digit hitting errors with losses in the first and third sets, but really battled hard in dropping a heartbreaker in the middle set.

After having just three attempts in the first set, sophomore Catlin Pauley (Kenton, OH/Riverdale) took advantage of her opportunities in the pivotal second set. She recorded six of her eight kills on 10 attempts in that set.

The Fightin' Quakers led for most of the second set, and had a six-point lead, 10-4, after scoring six consecutive points. WC pushed the lead to as much as nine, leading 22-13. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies roared back to take a 23-22 lead in winning 26-24.

Franklin used the momentum of the comeback to score nine of the first 13 points in the third set en route to the 25-9 victory.

Senior Ashley Miller (Arcanum, OH/Franklin Monroe) led the team with nine kills on 21 attempts. Junior Ariana Neff (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) dished out a team-high 14 assists. Sophomore Noel Cain (Dayton, OH/Archbishop Carroll) added seven assists.

Junior Emily Oberschlake (West College Corner, IN/Union County) finished with seven digs. Ten different Wilmington players recorded a dig.

Wilmington (2-7) returns to the court Friday at the Manchester Invitational. Wilmington played Albion at 5 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. meeting with Ohio Wesleyan.
