Volleyball drops two

ALLIANCE – The Wilmington College volleyball team dropped a non-conference game and their Ohio Athletic Conference opener Saturday at Mount Union.

The Quakers opened the day, falling to the host Purple Raiders, 25-10, 25-12, 25-15, and then lost to Defiance, 25-5, 27-25, 25-20, in non-conference play. Wilmington falls to 0-11 overall, 0-1 in the OAC.

Junior Natalie Sparks had four kills to lead WC in the opener, while junior Ashley Miller and senior Molly Hirtzinger recorded three kills each.

Sophomore Ariana Neff had 10 of Wilmington's 14 assists. Freshman Meghan Bruns registered 14 digs and sophomore Tabby Biegler had 12 digs.

In the loss to the Yellow Jackets, Miller led the team with eight kills, while Neff distributed 18 assists. Biegler led the team with 15 digs.

The Quakers return to OAC action 1 p.m. September 28, traveling to Heidelberg.
