WILMINGTON - The Wilmington College volleyball team held a lead in every game, but ultimately fell in straight sets (25-16, 25-13, 25-17) to Otterbein Tuesday in Ohio Athletic Conference in Fred Raizk Arena at Hermann Court.
In the opening set, the Quakers fought tooth and nail with Otterbein, and held a lead of 13-12 before the Cardinals seized control. OC scored 13 of the last 16 points to pick up the win. Wilmington recorded a match-high eight kills in the opening set.
Otterbein took control early, and WC never threatened in the middle set en route to claiming the 25-13 win. For the second straight set, Wilmington increased its hitting percentage.
Much like the initial set, Wilmington hung with OC for most of the set. However, the Cardinals scored nine of the final 11 points to seal the match.
Sophomore Ashley Miller (Arcanum, OH/Franklin Monroe) led the team with seven kills, while senior Anne Keenan (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) added five kills. Freshman Ariana Neff (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) dished out a team-high 14 assists.
Sophomore Madi Ray (Loveland, OH/Loveland) had a team-high six digs.
Wilmington (7-16 overall, 0-5 OAC) will play its final home game of the season 7:30 p.m. Friday against Marietta. The Quakers will honor their three seniors Keenan, Sara Fisher (London, OH/Madison Plains) and Caity Massie (St. Paris, OH/Graham).
