VB drops two at Manchester

MANCHESTER, IN - The Wilmington College volleyball team suffered two losses Saturday to finish the Manchester University Pizza Hut Invitational with one victory in four attempts.

The Quakers led Anderson 2-0 after winning the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-22, but the Ravens refused to go away and stormed back. Anderson won the third and fourth sets by the same score, 25-19, and took the deciding set, 15-7.

"I thought we played well and looked confident," said assistant head coach Jill West. "Anne (Keenan) had a great start in the Anderson match."

Keenan (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) led Wilmington with 19 kills and added 12 digs in the five-set loss. Sophomore Ashley Miller (Arcanum, OH/Franklin Monroe) had another solid game, recording 34 assists, while sophomore Madi Ray (Loveland, OH/Loveland) had a team-high 16 digs.

In the final match of the event, the Fightin' Quakers fell to the host-Manchester Spartans in straight sets, 25-16, 25-18, 25-14.

Junior Molly Hirtzinger (Troy, OH/Troy) led the team with five kills, while Miller recorded a team-high 11 assists. Ray and sophomore Natalie Sparks (West Jefferson, OH/West Jefferson) finished with 12 digs each.

Wilmington (4-10) will play its first Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season when the Quakers host Heidelberg 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hermann Court.
