Women's Track & Field to Compete at Capital Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's track and field team continues its indoor season at the Jessica Starks Invitational hosted by Capital University on Saturday.

The Teams: Wilmington will be joined by host Capital University as well as a plethora of other NCAA Division III institutions Marietta College, Muskingum University, Mount St. Joseph University, Union College and Franciscan University. 

The Coach: Ron Combs enters his 18th season as the head coach of Wilmington's men's and women's track and field teams. Combs has been named Coach of the Year, twice by the Heartland Athletic Conference, and once by the OAC. In 2002, he led the men's indoor team to a sixth-place finish at NCAA DIII Championships.

Who to Watch: Fresh off a fourth-place finish as a team at the Marietta Invitational last weekend, Emma Burke won the 500-meter dash with a time of 1:27.73, an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) qualifying time. The Fightin' Quakers also had three individuals - Allison Helmke, Katie Hughes and Savannah Rhodes - place in the top eight of the 3,000-meter run. Rounding out the track events were Brooke Gibbons and Kelly Rice placed third (2:44.31) and fifth (2:57.36) respectively in the 800-meter run. In field events, Kayli Sullivan placed in both the weight throw (39' 4") and the shot put (32' 7 3/4").
