Throwing Duo Leads Women's Track and Field at Jenna Strong

WILMINGTON, Ohio - The Wilmington College women's outdoor track and field team hosted the Jenna Strong Invitational on Saturday, April 7. Of the 10 teams that competed, the Fightin' Quakers took second place with 137 points.

The Quakers had a strong showing in the throwing events this afternoon. Lauren Stacy and Kayli Sullivan earned first and second place, respectively in the shot put. Stacy hit a mark of 12.39 meters while Sullivan threw 11.09 meters. The duo then competed in the discus throw and once again earned first and third. Stacy claimed first with a toss of 41.61 meters while Sullivan took third-place with a heave of 35.82 meters.

In the hammer throw, Stacy took home the trifecta with a throw of 48.51 meters. Zara Zeller finished third place with a heave of 38.85 meters while Sullivan placed fourth.

Morgan Loomis took first-place in the javelin throw with a toss of 29.40 meters.

On the track, Allison Helmke claimed the Quakers' first, first-place finish. She ran 13:13.51 in the 3000-meter steeplechase.

Emma Burke earned first-place in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.17. Burke then competed in the 400-meter hurdles where she took second-place with a time of 1:08.33.

In the 4-x-400-meter relay, the group of Burke, Cheyenne Rhodes, McKenzie Hamm, and Miranda Gibson took third-place with a time of 4:28.09.

"I was really excited with the way the meet turned out despite Mother Nature throwing us a curveball," Head Track & Field Coach Ron Combs said. "Our athletes love competing at home in front of their friends and family. It turned out really well for us."

Wilmington heads to the All-Ohio Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 14. Competition is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
