Stacy sets pace on day one OAC Championships

BEREA- The Wilmington College women's track and field team competed in the first of two days of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Indoor Track and Field Championship on Friday. The event, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University will end Saturday, with the finals of today's prelim events, as well as the finals of all events that have yet to be contested. Of today's contested events, all field events were final attempts, while all running events, except the 3000-meter run and the distance medley relay, were preliminary attempts.

At the conclusion of day one's events, the Fightin' Quakers are seventh, with eight points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Sophomore Cierra Johnson was the first of the Fightin' Quakers to score a top-ten finish with her 4.81-meter jump in the long jump final. This distance earned ninth.

  • Junior Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) was the only point scorer for the women's team in today's session. Her second-place finish in the shot put finals earned eight points. Her put of 13.21-meters is currently ranked 23rd out of all reported NCAA Division III throws to-date.

  • Of the running preliminaries, freshman Emma Burke (Hilliard, OH/Darby) was the lone Fightin' Quaker to qualify for finals. Her 9.01 in the 55-meter hurdles has her seeded fifth for tomorrow's finals.

  • The distance medley relay, consisting of freshmen Allison Helmke (Defiance, OH/Tinora), Cheyenne Rhodes (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester), and Kacey Burns (Millford, OH/Fairbanks); and senior Stephanie Fetters (West Milton, OH/Milton-Union) earned the only other top-ten finish of the day with their 14:03.08. This time placed them ninth.

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The Fightin' Quakers return to the track 10AM tomorrow for the conclusion of the OAC Indoor Track and Field Championship.
