Truss leads @DubC_XCTR teams at Indoor All-Ohio

WESTERVILLE- Eight members of the Wilmington College men's and women's track and field teams competed in the Indoor All-Ohio Championship hosted by Otterbein University on Saturday. The Fightin' Quakers finished 16th on the women's side and ninth on the men's.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Women's Team:

  • Freshman Emma Burke (Hilliard, OH/Darby) opened the meet for the women with a 12th place finish in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.90. This time did not advance Burke to finals, but it was a 0.06 second improvement over her seed time.

  • Junior Lauren Stacy (Bethel, OH/Western Brown) was the only other member of the WC women's team to travel to the meet. Stacy finished fourth in the weight throw with a throw of 16.09m and tenth in the shot put (11.88m).

  • The two Fightin' Quakers earned a total of five points to finish sixteenth.

Men's Team:

  • Senior Antone Truss (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) was the highest finisher for the Fightin' Quakers over the course of the meet finishing first in the high jump, clearing a height of 2.06-meters. The height of this  jump currently has Truss tied for seventh in the country in Division III jumps. Truss also competed in the triple jump where he finished 14th, jumping a distance of 11.88-meters.

  • Junior Kalvin Butts (St. John's, MI/St. John's) earned the next highest finish for the men. His toss to a distance of 15.56-meters in the weight throw not only earned him fourth-place, but was also a seasonal best.

  • Junior Pierce Burnam (New Richmond, OH/New Richmond) set yet another WC track record with his 8.52 in the 60-meter hurdles which earned him sixth-place. Burnam also finished sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 12.70-meters.

  • Burnam teamed up with freshmen Aaron Koch (Goshen, OH/Goshen) and Adam Knaub, and sophomore Eric Flynn, Jr. (Cleveland, OH/Central Catholic) for a 4x200-meter relay. The quartet finished 11th with a time of 2:00.15.

  • Freshman Kaner Butler (Yellow Springs, OH/Yellow Springs) rounded out the Fightin' Quakers team. Butler competed in the triple jump, where his jump of 11.72-meters placed him 15th.

  • These finishes were combined with Burnam's second place heptathlon finish in the All-Ohio Combined Events Championship last week, and helped WC finish ninth with a total of 29 points.

HEAD COACH RON COMBS QUOTES

  • " We, really, had a good day at the All-Ohio Championship. The men had a great day with Antone winning the high jump and Kalvin having a great finish in the weight throw. Pierce had a strong meet to continue the momentum he built in the heptathlon a week ago. We took a small group to the meet, but they competed well."

WHAT'S NEXT

  • The Fightin' Quakers will travel to Mount Union Saturday for an invitational.
