@DubC_XCTR women improve at OAC Split

  • MARIETTA- The Wilmington College women's track and field team traveled to Marietta, Friday, to compete in the OAC South Split Meet. Five of the ten OAC teams competed in this meet: Otterbein University, Capital University, Muskingum University, Marietta College, and the Fightin' Quakers. Of these five teams, Wilmington finished fourth with 61 points.


    HOW IT HAPPENED

    • Sophomore Cierra Johnson opened the meet with a fifth-place finish in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.05. Fellow sophomore teammate Brooklyn Payne (Chicago, IL/Chicago Agricultural School) earned a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter dash, clocking in at 28.33.

    • In addition to her meet opening fifth-place, Johnson claimed a first-place finish in the long jump (5.00m), the highest finish for the team. She also earned a third-place finish in the triple jump, with a distance of 9.54m.

    • Freshman Emma Burke (Hilliard, OH/Darby) earned her first collegiate first-place award in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9.26, almost 0.1seconds  faster than her prelims time.  

    • The 4x200-meter relay grabbed a third-place finish for the Fightin' Quakers. The quartet of freshman Kacey Burns (Milford Center, OH/Fairbanks), Payne, junior Ashley Lovett (Washington Court House, OH/Washington Senior), and Johnson completed the event in 1:58.05.

    • The distance medley also came out strong in today's competition, finishing fourth with a time of 15:23.86. The medley was comprised of freshman Allison Helmke (Defiance, OH/Tinora), junior Rebecca Harting (Farmersville, OH/Valleyview), sophomore Sarah Pierce (New Carlisle, OH/Dominion Academy), and senior Stephanie Fetters (West Milton, OH/Milton-Union).

    • Junior Lauren Stacy, a typical force in the throwing events for the Fightin' Quakers stayed on track this week, finishing second in the shot put (12.88m) and first in the weight throw (15.85m).
