Murphy sets school record in 60 hurdles

BEXLEY – Senior Sarah Murphy set a school record Friday as members of the Wilmington College women's track and field team finished fifth of six schools at the Capital Invitational.

Murphy was second in the 60 meter hurdles with a record time of 9.39. Murphy teamed with sophomore Angela Dorsett, sophomore Hannah Rolf and freshman Elizabeth Davis to place second in the 4x200 relay (1:54.96). The trio of Dorsett, Davis and Murphy was joined by senior Tricia Steffen to place second in the 4x400 relay (4:34.08)

"Good opener for both teams," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "It was good opportunity for the track kids who have been working through the fall to see where they are. We are strong in some areas and weak in some areas. Hopefully after the break, we can improve our weaknesses."

Junior Marissa Bolen won the shot put with a distance of 12.9 meters, while freshman Tara Karnes was fourth with the distance of 11.5 meters.
