Bolen inches closer to Nationals

NAPERVILLE, IL – Sophomore Marissa Bolen keeps inching her way toward a berth in the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field championships in the non-scored Dr. Keeler Invitational at North Central College.

Bolen (Gibsonburg, OH/Gibsonburg) recorded season-best performances in both in shot put and the discus. She moved into the top 30 nationally in the shot put, finishing fourth in 43-03.75. With the top 22 performances earning berths, Bolen will have one last opportunity Monday at the Ohio Wesleyan University Last Chance Meet.

Currently a toss of 44-02 will be needed to move into the final spot.

"The highlight was definitely Marissa Bolen," said Wilmington head coach Ron Combs. "She has been so solid this season. She's really close to what it will take to get into Nationals."

The sophomore threw 120-06 in the discus and 120-05 in the hammer.

Junior Sarah Murphy (West Liberty, OH/West Liberty Salem) won her heat in the 400 hurdles running a personal best time of 1:06.65.

"Really proud of Sarah," said Combs. "She has battled injuries most of the season, but she has battled back and run really well in the last two meets."

Sophomore Jeremy Duncan (Cincinnati, OH/Archbishop Moeller) won his heat, and finished fifth in the 200 meter dash.
