Leon Competes in 200-Yard Backstroke Finals on Final Day of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – Macki Leon of the Wilmington College women's swimming team competed in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke on the final day of the 2019 Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Swimming & Diving Championships on Saturday.

Leon earned a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:13.25. Kadie Grundy finished sixth in the consolation final in the event posting a mark of 2:21.79.

Three Fightin' Quakers placed in the consolation final of the 1,650-yard freestyle including Rachel O'Donnell (18:56.08) and Margaret Hover (18:59.48) finished first and second respectively. Samantha Harter also competed in the event, posting a time of 22:07.24.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Hannah Davis took sixth in the consolation final with a time of 56.95 seconds. A trio of Quakers – Rebecca Curran (2:46.43), Kassidy Rogers (2:49.40) and Shelbi Mays (3:30.60) – competed in the consolation final of the 200-yard breaststroke.

Wilmington's 400-yard freestyle relay team of Hover, Davis, Herring and Leon placed fifth with a time of 3:46.76.

"We work towards this meet that's a celebration of our season," Head Women's Swimming Coach Trip Breen said. "Both teams embraced that. It was exciting to watch 88 lifetime best swims and seven record-breaking performances."

As a team, Wilmington finished in fifth place with 248 points. John Carroll University won the OAC title with 800 points. The University of Mount Union finished second with 723 points, Ohio Northern University placed third with 636 points and Baldwin Wallace University took fourth with 560 points.
