AKRON, Ohio - The Wilmington College (WC) women's swimming team posted one top-eight finish and broke two more WC records during day two of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Swim Meet hosted by Ohio Northern University at the Ocasek Natatorium at the University of Akron on Friday.
The Fightin' Quakers sit in fifth place with 186 points after tonight's session with one more day of competition remaining.
The Quakers' highest place, individual finish came from Samantha Glish in the 100-yard butterfly. Glish, who went into tonight's session seeded sixth, bested her prelims time of 1:00.20 by two seconds in finals. Her time of 58.91 not only earned fourth place but was also a new WC team record, her third this meet.
The next highest, individual place finish came from Macki Leon in the 200-yard freestyle. Her time of 2:01.77 earned 10th place. She was joined in the event by Margaret Hover, who finished 14th with a time of 2:04.46, and Rachel O'Donnell, who posted a 2:06.56 for 15th place.
Wilmington also had a strong showing in the 100-yard breaststroke, as three Quakers competed in the consolation heat. Alyssa Rogers was WC's top finisher, earning 12th place with a time of 1:12.81. Rebecca Curran was the next Quaker to the wall; she earned 15th place with a time of 1:16.25. Chloe Kresnak touched the wall in 1:18.53 to earn 16th place.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Ellyse Herr earned 13th placewith a time of 1:06.27. She was backed by Kadie Grundy who finished fifteenth with a time of 1:07.26 and Laura Swinehart, who earned eighth place from a time of 1:08.86.
In the 200-yard medley relay, the quartet of Leon, Rogers, Hannah Davis, and Glish earned fifth with a time of 1:53.60.
Herr, Hover, Karley Schlensker, and O'Donnell formed the team's fifth place 800-yard freestyle relay (8:39.63).
After the conclusion of tonight's session, Leon time trialed the 100-yard individual medley where she posted a 1:03.30, a new WC team record.
WC is back in action at 10 a.m. tomorrow for the final day of prelims where the 200-yard backstroke, 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard breaststroke, 200-yard butterfly, 1650-yard freestyle, and 400-yard freestyle relay will be contested.
