Fightin’ Quaker women fifth at OWU Invite

DELAWARE, Ohio-- The Wilmington College women's swimming team completed competition in the final session of the, two-day, three-session, Corbiere-Merion Invitational hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on Sunday morning. Going into this session, the Fightin' Quakers were fighting to get out of fifth-place and into finish fourth. Ultimately, the women were unable to surpass fourth-place Manchester University and finished in fifth-place with 359 points, 15 points behind fourth-place.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first individual event of the day, the 100-yard individual medley, senior Samantha Glish (Louisville, KY/Ballard) earned fifth-place with a time of 1:07.07.

  • Freshman Macki Leon (Ashland, OH/Ashland) claimed sixth-place in the 400-yard individual medley, dropping over eight seconds from her seed time. She completed the 16-lengths in 5:03.69.

  • Glish and Leon joined with freshmen Hannah Davis and Margaret Hover (Grove City, OH) to form a 200-yard freestyle relay. The quartet earned fifth-place with a time of 1:49.78.

  • The same quartet made up the 'A' 400-yard medley relay. In that event, their time of 4:30.01 earned sixth-place. Seventh-place was claimed by the Fightin' Quakers' 'B' relay made up of junior Ellyse Herr (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead), sophomore Rebecca Curran (Cincinnati, OH), freshman Kadie Grundy (Lafayette, IN/Harrison), and senior Savanna Burcham (Urbana, OH/Urbana). This group touched the wall in 4:54.98.

  • The Fightin' Quakers go on a hiatus from competition until January 13, when they take on Manchester University at home.
