
HIRAM, Ohio- The Wilmington College women's swimming team competed in a non-Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet against Hiram College Saturday afternoon. Despite having competed in a sprint meet the night before, the Fightin' Quakers came out of the gate fresh this afternoon, and won every event- the final score, Wilmington 141, Hiram 27.
HOW IT HAPPENED

The meet opened with the 200-meter medley relay. The quartet of freshmen Kadie Grundy (Lafayette, IN/Harrison) and Hannah Davis, sophomore Rebecca Curran (Cincinnati, OH), and senior Samantha Glish (Louisville, OH/Ballard) posted a time of 2:21.00 to earn first in the field.

Next, the Fightin' Quakers swept first through third in the 800-meter freestyle. Freshman Macki Leon (Ashland, OH/Ashland) came in first with a time of 10:52.41. She was followed by senior Savanna Burcham (Urbana, OH/Urbana) (2nd, 12:10.24) and sophomore Samantha Harter (Canton, OH/Glen Oak) (3rd, 12:46.20).

Glish took home first in the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:27.70, as well as in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:06.82.

Wilmington, again, swept one through three in the 50-meter freestyle. Freshman Margaret Hover (Grove City, OH) got her hand on the wall first, in 30.44-seconds. Next in was Burcham with a time of 33.32. Freshman Karley Schlensker (Fairfield, OH/Badin) swam in for third, clocking in with a 33.34.

Sophomore Laura Swinehart (Lancaster, OH/Fairfield Union) claimed first in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 3:04.15.

Leon, Davis, and Grundy swept the field in the 100-meter butterfly, earning first through third, respectively.

Senior Ellyse Herr (Edison, OH/Mount Gilead) touched the wall first in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:21.66.

Hover earned first, as well, in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 5:14.93.

Leon then dove in and touched the wall first in the 100-meter breaststroke, the clock reading 1:26.61.

Hover, Burcham, Davis, sophomore Rachel O'Donnell (Seven Hills, OH/Normandy) joined together for the final event of the afternoon, the 200-meter freestyle relay. The quartet posted the fastest time in the heat, 4:51.47 though were seeded as exhibition, meaning they did not score.

- "We continued to make progress today. We were a little sluggish off of the statr, but we eventually got it together and had some nice swinms. Margaret Hover had a nice meet today, winning both the 400 and the 50. She really had to battle to win the 400. It was a great race."
