WILMINGTON, Ohio- The Wilmington College women's swimming team dove into Ohio Athletic Conference action, Friday evening, in a dual meet against Ohio Northern University. Despite large improvements in racing technique and several in-season bests, the Fightin' Quakers fell to the Polar Bears, 203-59.
HOW IT HAPPENED

In the 800-meter freestyle, freshman Margaret Hover (Grove City, OH) placed second, with a time of 10:49.70. Junior teammate Rachel O'Donnell (Seven Hills, OH/Normandy) finished just behind, completing the 32 laps in 11:18.37, an in-season best for the swimmer.

The next in-season bests came from senior Samantha Glish (Louisville, OH/Ballard) in both the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle. Her season best time of 28.75 in the 50 earned second-place in the field while her time of 1:04.44 in the 100 placed third.

Freshman Macki Leon (Ashland, OH/Ashland) earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter freestyle, posting a time of 2:19.80. Leon also placed second in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:12.51. Next, she stepped up to compete in the 100-meter individual medley. She finished the event in 1:13.15 to, once again, earn second.

The distance pair of Hover and O'Donnell also touched the wall for second- and fourth-place in the 400-meter freestyle, respectively. Hover clocked in with a time of 5:18.72, while O'Donnell swam in, in 5:40.49.

Glish, Hover, Leon, and freshman Hannah Davis came together for the final event of the evening, the 200-meter freestyle relay. The quartet missed getting their hand on the wall first by only six-one-hundredths of a second. They posted a time of 1:57.86.
