WILMINGTON - The Wilmington College women's swimming team dove into the pool for the first time this season on Saturday, racing against Baldwin Wallace. Despite best efforts and several seasonal best times, the women's team couldn't pull ahead and fell to the Yellow Jackets, 135-67.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Junior Samantha Glish (Louisville, KY/ Ballard) brought home two first place finishes for the Fightin' Quakers in the 50 meter freestyle (28.79) and the 100 Meter Freestyle (1:05.74). Not only were these first place finishes, but they were also seasonal-bests for Glish.
  • Glish teamed up with freshman Hannah Houston (Morrow, OH/ Wilmington), senior Elyse Spraul (Cincinnati, OH/ Mount Notre Dame), and sophomore Ellyse Herr (Edison, OH/ Mount Gilead) for a first place finish in the 200 Meter Freestyle Relay. The team clocked in with a time of 2:00.42.
  • Houston took home two, second-place individual finishes for the Fightin' Quakers. She clocked in, in the 50 Meter Freestyle with a time of 29.21 and in the 100 Meter Backstroke in 1:15.21.
  • Spraul and senior Haley Rowland (Fairborn, OH/ Xenia Christian) brought home two, individual, third place finishes. Spraul in the 200 Meter Freestyle (2:27.74) and the 100 Meter Butterfly (1:15.15), Rowland in the 800 Meter Freestyle (11:35.43) and the 400 Meter Freestyle (5:34.58).

HEAD COACH TRIP BREEN QUOTES

  • "Sam Glish had an extraordinary day. Typically sprinters don't do particularly well in season, so to have her go in season bests in both the 50 and the 100 is exciting."
  • "I'm not sure if it was the height of the emotions, or if it was because we've only been in season for a month so we're still rusty, but we really need to work on the little things- our relay take offs, our turns, we need to race to the finish."
 WHAT'S NEXT
