Women's Soccer Hosts John Carroll for Senior Night on Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team concludes its 2018 season with a senior night matchup against John Carroll University (JCU) on Saturday evening. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is slated for 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and JCU. The Quakers are 8-8-0 overall and 2-6-0 in OAC play after falling at Capital University 1-0 in double overtime on Wednesday. The Blue Streaks are 6-10-1 overall and 3-5-0 in conference after a 5-1 thumping of Heidelberg University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 27th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Michael Marich has led JCU to 61 victories in his near-seven seasons as head coach.

The Players: Wilmington has scored 22 goals this season from 11 different players. Alex Vestal leads the team with six goals and three assists, including two goals in the win over Muskingum last Wednesday, for 15 total points. Five other Quakers – Kaitlin Evans, Lakyn Hupp, Paige Lane, Taylor Leake and Madison Wiedeman – have all scored at least two goals. Defensively, Leda Moyer has given up 1.24 goals per game with five shutouts. Bailey Fischer leads the Blue Streaks with 13 goals and four assists for 30 points. Danielle DelGuidice allows 2.08 goals per contest.

Scoreless Streak: Wilmington has not scored a goal in the last six games. Tiffany Hayes scored Wilmington's last goal in a 5-0 victory over Muskingum University on Oct. 3.

OAC Tournament Implications: The Quakers will qualify for the OAC Tournament with a victory over JCU and a Baldwin Wallace University victory over Marietta College.

Senior Night: The game marks the final regular season home game for seven seniors. A brief ceremony for Leda Moyer, Taylor Leake, Sara Pierce, Alex Vestal, Hanna Greaney, Kaitlin Evans and Mellonee Hall will be held prior to the contest.

Series History: Wilmington is 7-8-7 against JCU since joining the OAC prior to the 2000 season. The Quakers and Blue Streaks have battled to scoreless draws in each of the previous two seasons. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
