Women's Soccer Faces Albion in Final Non-Conference Contest

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team returns home for its final non-conference game of the 2018 regular season to face Albion College at Williams Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Albion. The Fightin' Quakers are 5-2-0 overall after winning three consecutive road games including a most recent 4-0 shutout at Earlham College. The Britons are 3-4-1 on the season and most recently lost to Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) member Capital University 4-3 last weekend.

The Coaches: Steve Spirk enters his 27th season as Wilmington's head women's soccer coach. Spirk, a 1982 alumnus, has led the Quakers to six NCAA Division III Tournaments, eight conference championships and over 300 victories during his tenure. A member of the Wilmington Athletics Hall of Fame, Spirk was a four-time All-American and holds several of the College's men's soccer records. Eric Scott, a 2001 Albion alumnus, is in his sixth season leading the Britons' women's soccer program.

The Players: Wilmington features a balanced offensive attack as for Quakers – Alex Vestal, Lakyn Hupp, Paige Lane and Taylor Leak – have all scored at least two goals. Vestal leads the way having found the back of the net three times including twice in Wilmington's win at Earlham. Leda Moyer averages surrendering just 0.84 goals per contest. Clare Kelley leads Albion offensively with three goals and one assist for seven total points. Four other Britons have scored twice.

Series History: Wilmington is 1-0-1 against Albion in the last two decades. The last time the two teams played, on Sept. 6, 2009, the contest ended in a 1-1 draw. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
