ANDERSON, Indiana - The Wilmington College women's soccer team a winning streak with its second consecutive road victory, defeating Anderson University 3-1 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Wilmington opened the scoring in the 14th minute. Anderson's goalkeeper, Allyson Saylor, mishandled a cross up high. Abby Spirk pounced on it, scoring her first collegiate goal and putting the Fightin' Quakers ahead 1-0.

Twenty minutes later, Wilmington struck again as Tiffany Hayes broke through the Anderson defense down the left side of the pitch and sent a ball to Paige Lane who fired a shot in the top corner past Saylor. The Quakers, who outshot the Ravens 10-3 in the first 45 minutes, took the two-goal lead into halftime.

Anderson cut the deficit in half with a goal from Emily Buchman in the 59th minute, but Madison Wiedeman found Taylor Leake less than 10 minutes later to stretch the visitor's lead back to two goals and put the game away.

"Anderson was a tough and physical team to play, especially in 90-degree heat," Head Coach Steve Spirk said. "Our team has been putting in some work with finish in practice, and that showed today."

Leda Moyer earned the victory for Wilmington, making six saves on seven shots. Saylor took the loss, allowing three goals on six shots.

Wilmington held a 13-11 edge in total shots, but it was Anderson who fired seven shots on goal compared to the Quakers' six. The Ravens also held a 7-6 margin in corner kicks.

Wilmington (4-2-0) travels to Earlham College for the Quaker Bowl Rivalry on Wednesday afternoon.
