DEFIANCE, Ohio – Two second-half goals on set pieces from Westminster College gave the Titans a 2-0 victory over the Wilmington College women's soccer team on the final day of the Defiance College Tournament on Friday.

The first half was a defensive battle as only five shots were taken in the 45 minutes, four from Wilmington and one from Westminster. Three of the Fightin' Quakers' shots were taken in the first 18 minutes including one by Courtney Ryan in the third minute that was saved.

Keely Birsic opened the second half with a shot that was denied by Wilmington goalkeeper Leda Meyer. The Quakers answered with shots from Mackenzie Weaver, which sailed just high, and Kaitlin Evans, that was saved by Westminster's Camille Holzschuh.

Less than a minute later, Birsic capitalized on a Quaker foul and scored a free kick from 25 yards out, putting the Titans on top 1-0. Westminster kept up the offensive pressure over the next 10 minutes, firing three shots. A Titan was fouled in the box, earning a penalty kick. Birsic converted to double Westminster's lead.

Wilmington would get four more shots off in the last 30 minutes, but couldn't breakthrough the Titan defense.

The Quakers held a 10-7 edge in shots as well as taking four shots on goal to the Titans' two. Westminster countered with a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Moyer made two saves on four shots and dipped to 1-1 with the loss while Holzschuh saved all four shots and earned the win. Evans and Ryan combined for half of Wilmington's 10 shots as a team.

The Quakers (1-1) hosts Wittenberg University for the home-opener on Wednesday evening. Kickoff from Williams Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
