Shooting Barrage Lifts Women's Soccer to a 2-0 Victory Over Defiance

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's soccer team fired 44 shots and surrendered just one in a 2-0 victory over Defiance College in the season-opener on Friday afternoon.

The Fightin' Quakers outshot the Yellow Jackets 28-0 in the first half, but had to wait until the 38ths minute when Madison Wiedeman found Taylor Leake for the game's first goal.

Wilmington kept up the pressure in the second half and eventually doubled its lead when Kaitlin Evans scored unassisted to put the game out of reach.

"Today's win was a good team effort," Head Coach Steve Spirk said. "Our passing and movement created scoring opportunities and maintained possession of the ball. Strong defense and goals by Taylor Leake and Kaitlin Evans completed the victory."

Along with the goal scorers, Alex Vestal fired nine shots with give being on net while Addison Tiffany had eight shots with six on goal.

Leda Moyer earned the shutout victory saving the lone Yellow Jacket shot.

Wilmington (1-0) has a quick turnaround as it faces Westminster College (Pennsylvania) tomorrow (Saturday) at noon.
