Second-half goals lift OC past @DubC_WSoccer

WESTERVILLE – The Wilmington College women's soccer team yielded a pair of second-half goals Tuesday in falling to Otterbein, 2-0, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Memorial Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Otterbein dominated the play in the first half, launching 11 of the 13 shots in the first 45 minutes, but to no avail as the teams were scoreless at the break.
  • It did take long for the Cardinals to take the lead in the second half, scoring less than minutes into the second stanza. They added an unassisted goal in the 58th minute for insurance.
  • Wilmington was able to pick up its offense in the second half with seven shots, including four on frame.
  • Junior Hannah Greaney (Dayton, OH/Carroll) was the only player with multiple shots on goal, finishing with two of the five shots on goal. Junior Taylor Leake (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek), senior Haley Brausch (Clarksville, OH/Clinton-Massie) and sophomore Haley Burge (Clarks Hill, IN/McCutcheon) all had shots on goal.
  • Senior Ana Hosler (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) finished with seven saves on nine shots.

COACHES CORNER

"They put us under a lot of pressure in the first half, but we made a couple of adjustments," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "We gave up an early goal in the second half and the second goal was a bad goal, and it took a little out of us. It wasn't our best game; we just didn't play well."

WHAT'S NEXT

Wilmington (5-6-2 overall, 1-2-1 OAC) stays on the road 7 p.m. Friday to face Marietta (5-6-2 overall, 1-3 OAC) in league action.
