The Wilmington College women's soccer team continued to play well, scoring three straight goals – two in the second half – to record the 3-1 non-conference victory over Ohio Wesleyan Wednesday on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Battling Bishops took the lead with a goal in the 20th minute, but Wilmington answered four minutes later as senior Ashley Lovett (Washington Court House, OH/Senior) scored her fourth goal of the season.
• The action was pretty even in the first half as WC finished with six shots and OWU had five.
• It was a different story in the second half as the Fightin' Quakers outshot their guests, 5-1.
• Junior Hanna Greaney (Dayton, OH/Carroll) gave Wilmington the lead for good with a header in the 50th minute. She now has a team-high five goals.
• Sophomore Alex Vestal (Orlando, FL/Lake Nona) added an insurance goal, her fourth on the season, in the 65th minute.
• Senior Ana Hosler (Blanchester, OH/Blanchester) and sophomore Leda Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) split time in the net. Moyer (1-0-1) earned the victory without facing a shot in the second half. Hosler allowed one goal on two shots in the first half.
• There were only six fouls, three on each side, called in the game with no yellow cards.

COACHES CORNER

• "I knew we would rebound after the weekend," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "We worked on some things the last couple of days, and I think we scored some nice goals today. Getting down 1-0, and coming back to tie it up on a breakaway; making it a game. In the second half, I thought we totally outplayed them and scored two very nice goals."
• "We are getting goals from forwards as well as midfielders; set plays, breakaways, we are getting them in different ways," said Spirk. "That definitely bodes well for the future."
• "The team responded," Spirk said of the early deficit. "We had played well. We hit the post and missed a corner kick we could have scored on. We knew we could get one in on them, it was just a matter of time."

Wilmington (3-4-1) looks to even its record 1 p.m. Saturday as the Fightin' Quakers host Ohio Christian.
