@DubC_WSoccer overwhelms Earlham, 5-0

In a battle of Quakers, Wilmington recorded a resounding 5-0 victory Wednesday over Earlham in non-conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

"After the loss on Saturday we had two really good days of training, and worked on some things we needed to improve," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "I thought we did those things tonight. I thought we defended better as a team; we were more organized. We attacked with more intensity and we put away our chances. The team is coming together, working hard, and we are looking forward to the next game."

Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Ross (Covington, OH/Newton) made just two saves in registering her first career shutout. It marked the first shutout of the season for the Fightin' Quakers.

Wilmington got the scoring going early as junior Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg-Clay) drew a foul in the box, and senior Ashley Stockton (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) cashed in the penalty kick less than seven minutes into the contest.

Making her first start of the season, freshman Taylor Leake (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) made tremendous impact. She tallied her first career goal in the 41st minute, a rocket from 20 yards out.

"We got Taylor Leake back (from injury) and she had an outstanding game," said Spirk. "The goal she scored was a great shot, upper 90. I don't think you are going to save that too often."

Wilmington poured the pressure on EC, and dominated the action. WC finished with 40 shots, 23 of which were goal, while limiting Earlham to just four shots – one in the second half.

The Fightin' Quakers scored three goals in a 10-minute span of the second half.

Sophomore Stephanie Randolph (Monroe, OH/Monroe) scored her second goal of the season in the 73rd minute as she deposited a ricochet off the post in the goal. Freshman Ashley Lovett (Washington Court House, OH/Washington Senior) tallied her third goal of the season with sophomore Alyssa Reule (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) getting the assist in the 80th minute.

Randolph assisted on Wilmington's final goal as freshman Ashley Marrero (West Carrollton, OH/Middletown Christian) capped the scoring with a goal in the 83rd minute.

"I told our team before the game that this goalkeeper was very good," said Spirk. "I thought she had an outstanding game. For us to score five goals on her was an accomplishment because she had some tremendous saves."
