The Wilmington College women's soccer team yielded a goal with 73 seconds remaining in the second overtime, and fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph Tuesday, 1-0, in non-conference action on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.
"I thought we had our chances to score, and we didn't get them," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "I really thought the game was going to end 0-0. A tie after overtime would have been a good result. The goal they scored was a result in us giving the ball away in key spots, and they capitalized."
The Fightin' Quakers were pretty proficient in getting quality shots as eight of their 12 attempts were on goal. A couple of their better opportunities came as the barely missed the frame on several attempts.
Junior Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg-Clay) and freshman Alaina Lundregan (Dublin, OH/Hilliard Davidson) combined for six of Wilmington's 12 shots.
"I think we had some good opportunities," said Spirk. "We started slow, but with a young team people are still trying to figure things out. We will find our confidence, and hopefully rebound this weekend."
Freshman goalkeeper Brittany Ross (Covington, OH/Newton) stopped five of the six shots faced to suffer the loss.
Wilmington (0-1) travels to Defiance 3 p.m. Friday to face the Yellow Jackets in non-conference action.
