Hamrock scores in loss

The Wilmington College women's soccer allowed two unanswered goals as they fell to John Carroll, 2-1, Saturday in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Williams Stadium.

"Overall, the effort by the team, on Homecoming after a long day, was very good," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "The second goal - we give that up - and really up to that point and a little after, we out-play them. If we can cut down on giving away plays we can win some games in the OAC."

Senior Lauren Hamrock (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) scored early in the game, giving Wilmington the lead less than 10 minutes into the contest. Sophomore Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lynchburg Clay) took ball down the right sideline and played a cross that Reule ran up to and placed in the back of the net.

The inability to clear the ball following a corner kick cost the Fightin' Quakers a chance to go into half with the lead. Spirk said it was a "disappointing" goal. John Carroll tallied the game-winner in the 52nd minute, and from there, had to hold on.

Wilmington hit the post three times down the stretch and had another chance just miss the near post with 30 seconds remaining. With the loss, WC drops to 6-7 overall, and 0-3 in the OAC.

"I am not really looking at our record," said Spirk. "What I am doing is trying to get our team prepared to play each game. Even though we didn't win the game, we've played John Carroll as good as we have. We hit the post three times today."

Senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) made six saves in 90 minutes of action.

WC travels to Capital 7 p.m. Wednesday for another OAC game.
