Scott tallies both markers in win

Sophomore Taylor Scott scored two second-half goals as the Wilmington College women's soccer team knocked off Defiance, 2-0, in non-conference action at Williams Stadium Saturday.

"She is becoming a very good forward because she is working hard, and she changes up her game," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "We changed some things in the second half, and it was effective. Taylor's second goal was individual skill. She beat four players, and put the ball in the net. That is what goal scorers do."

Scott broke the scoreless tie in the 60 minute, beating the goalkeeper from left end of the goalie box. She added an insurance marker in the 87th minute, dribbling 40 yards through four defenders and beating the keeper for her team-high fifth goal of the season.

Wilmington had a couple of nice scoring opportunities in the first half, but could quite break through. The residual effect of the Fightin' Quakers' offensive pressure kept the visiting Yellow Jackets from attempting a shot in the first 45 minutes.

"I think in the first half they did a good job of defending," said Spirk. "We struggle to break them down. They were very organized defensively, and I think they had a good strategy. We had our chances, but our finishing wasn't very efficient. In the second half, our finishing was much better."

Senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) tallied her fourth shutout of the season, making two saves.

Wilmington (5-3), owners of a five-game winning streak, travels to Delaware, OH for a non-conference meeting with Ohio Wesleyan.
