Three different players score in victory

The Wilmington College women's soccer team scored three unanswered goals as the Fightin' Quakers evened their record with a 3-1 victory over Wooster Sunday in non-conference action at Williams Stadium.

"This is a good win," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "This is, by far, one of the best matches we've played. Wooster is a good team, a quality team, a good passing team, and I thought we played well today. Especially, when we give up a goal to go down 1-0, and we come back to score three minutes later – and then scored a couple minutes after that. It showed the character of the team."

After going scoreless in the first three games, Wilmington has found the back of the net eight times in the last three games. Spirk attributes the change in the growing pains of a youthful team.

"We are a young team and we are still figuring it out, and we still have more to figure out," he said.

Sophomore Taylor Scott (Lynchburg, OH/Lychburg-Clay) scored the equalizing goal in the 33rd minute, and then assisted on the game-winner in the 36th to help Wilmington in the victory.

"Taylor is really coming into her own," said Spirk. "She is the type of player that we thought could score goals, and she is starting to find her rhythm and confidence."

Freshman Alexis Bailey (Middletown, OH/Middletown) took the crossing pass from Scott and tallied her first collegiate goal for the game-winner.

The second goal enabled WC to go to its bench and rest some starters. That proved pivotal as Wilmington made one subs in the second half, while Wooster made 10 substitutions in the second half.

"The second half I didn't sub as much because I felt we needed to lock them down and I thought we did that with the people that were in there," said Spirk.

Wilmington gained an insurance goal as senior Lauren Hamrock (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) headed in a goal that deflected off the crossbar. Freshman Alyssa Reule (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) hit the shot that appeared to be going in, causing a scrum in front of the goal line, and Hamrock was able to take advantage.

Senior Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) made five saves on six shots in recorded the victory.

The Fightin' Quakers (3-3) travels to Earlham 4 p.m Wednesday in another non-conference match.
