Gentile scores twice in win over MSJ

CINCINNATI – Senior Camille Gentile scored both goals to lead the Wilmington College women's soccer team to the 2-0 victory over Mount St. Joseph Wednesday in non-conference action.

"The team played well and passed the ball well," said Wilmington head coach Steve Spirk. "They are starting to figure how we want them to play and they are doing a good job."

Gentile (Brownsburg, IN/Brownsburg) was the beneficiary of great play by her teammates in getting the scoring opportunities. Senior Lauren Hamrock (Beavercreek, OH/Beavercreek) drew a foul as she moved toward the goal, setting up a free kick at the top of the box. Gentile took the free kick and drilled it near the upper 90 for the first goal of the game.

Wilmington applied pressure to the Lions all game long, launching seven shots in each half with 10 of the 14 shots placed on frame.

A hand ball in the box in the game's 56th minute led to a penalty kick in which Gentile deposited into the back of the net.

Spirk was thrilled about his team's defensive efforts in posting their second consecutive shutout. Senior goalkeeper Taylor Franklin (Delaware, OH/Rutherford B. Hayes) made six saves in earning the shutout.

Wilmington (2-3) returns home 2 p.m. Sunday to host Wooster at Williams Stadium in non-conference action.
