Women's Lacrosse Takes on Ohio Northern Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team will compete at Ohio Northern on Wednesday, April 4. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington is on a two-game losing streak and will be looking to get its first conference win of the season. Ohio Northern is on a three-game losing streak and is still searching for the first OAC win of the season.

The Coaches: Taylor Martin is at the helm of Wilmington College in her first season. Martin spent her last two years as a graduate assistant at Castleton University where she received her master's degree in Athletic Leadership. Prior to her time at Castleton, Martin was the director of Lacrosse and Head Coach at a boarding school north of London. Martin competed for Berry College and started all four years as the goalie. Beth Hemminger is the first-ever head coach of the Ohio Northern women's lacrosse program. Hemminger is in her third season and guided the Polar Bears to a 10-22 record in their first two seasons. At ONU, she has coached two All-Conference players, had five Academic All-OAC honorees and the 2016 Rookie of the Year.

The Players: Wilmington's offense has been led by Becca Petra so far this season. On the season, Petra has scored 14 goals and four assists. Rachel Reinhart has accumulated 12 points this season, scoring nine goals and three assists. Defensively, Wilmington is led by Goalie Meghan Wieloch who has picked up 130 saves on the season while Hannah Gratsch and Abby Engelhart have picked up 23 and 27 ground balls, respectively. Ohio Northern Is led by a trio of players that have scored double-digit goals on the season. Sydney Skelding, Jacqui Lohman, and Betsy Naugle have combined for 33 goals on the season. The Polar Bear defense is led by Emily Hershberger who has a team-high 20 caused turnovers. In goal, Shannen Larsen Van Alstine leads the way with a 3-5 record and 64 saves on the year.
