ADRIAN, Michigan - The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team lost in a tough game against Adrian College this evening by a score of 17-3 on Saturday evening.
Playing away from home this evening at Docking Stadium in Adrian, Michigan, Wilmington had a difficult time possessing the ball and stopping the Bulldog attack. Adrian opened up the first half with three straight goals in the first nine minutes of the game. Wilmington was able to answer with back-to-back goals to close the gap to a 3-2 lead for Adrian. The Quaker goals came from Rachel Reinhart, assisted by Hannah Gratsch, and a goal from Becca Petra. Those two goals for the Fightin' Quakers were not enough to keep up with Adrian's offensive firepower. The Bulldogs went on a 5-0 scoring run to end the first half and secure an 8-2 lead.
Wilmington struggled to possess the ball with Adrian causing 19 turnovers in the first half. The Fightin' Quakers were able to limit those turnovers in the second half, but the Bulldog defense was stifling, only allowing one Quaker goal in the second half. Adrian went on a 6-0 scoring run in the second half to push the lead to 14-2, and ultimately seal the victory for the Bulldogs.
Wilmington's offense was led by Petra with two goals on four shots along with Reinhart with one goal on one shot. Defensively, Kara Griffith, Katie Hill, and Kelly Angevine were able to pick up three ground balls each. Goalie, Megan Wieloch had 15 saves on the evening.
Wilmington (1-4) will travel to Hiram College on Wednesday, March 14. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
