The Wilmington College women's lacrosse team was shut out in second half, and fell to Defiance in non-conference action, 11-5, at Williams Stadium Thursday.

"We struggled with the aggressiveness and couldn't match it," said Wilmington head coach Brett Yenger. "Defiance played hard and we weren't ready. The goalies kept us in it, but it wasn't enough. It's a learning opportunity for the next game."

Sophomore Kiki Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) scored both of her goals within the first five minutes of the game, the latter of which gave Wilmington a 2-1 lead. Junior Ashley Fox (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) gave the Fightin' Quakers their biggest lead of the game, 3-1.

However, Defiance answered with six straight goals. Four of the six goals came on special situations, two power play goals and two free position shots.

Junior Stephanie Belz (Gahanna, OH/Lincoln) broke the scoring string by the Yellow Jackets with 1:04 left, and senior Loryn Bryson (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) added a goal with seven seconds remaining in the half to get WC to within two goals.

It would be as close as Wilmington got as the Yellow Jackets scored the only four tallies in the second half.

Junior Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) allowed nine goals on 15 shots in more than 38 minutes of action. Freshman Megan Wieloch (Canton, MI/Plymouth) returned to goals after missing the last three games with an injury to allow just two goals on seven shots in 21 minutes.

Wilmington (2-6) has almost a week off before returning to action. The Fightin' Quakers hosts Loras 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.
