Regionally ranked UMU shuts out women's lax

Facing its toughest challenge of the season, the Wilmington College women's lacrosse team was shutout by regionally-ranked Mount Union, 22-0, Friday at Townsend Field in Williams Stadium.

Mount Union scored 14 times in the first half and eight in the second to record the victory.

Freshman attack Kiki Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) and sophomore Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) accounted for four of Wilmington's six shots in the game.

Senior Rachel Gutowski (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) claimed four of Wilmington's seven draw controls as the Purple Raiders managed to win 14 of 21 draw controls. Hall added two draw controls for the Fightin' Quakers.

Wilmington committed 18 turnovers and was 6-of-11 in clear attempts.

Sophomore goalkeeper Emily Phipps (Heath, OH/Heath) fell to 0-6 on the season, making seven saves.

Wilmington (0-12 overall, 0-3 OAC) returns to the field 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, hosting Otterbein.
