Koerner scores twice in loss

BEREA – Senior Sammy Koerner registered half of Wilmington's four goals as the women's lacrosse team fell to Baldwin Wallace 24-4 in the inaugural Ohio Athletic Conference game for both teams. The OAC sponsored men's and women's lacrosse for the first time in the 2014 season.

BW scored less that 30 seconds into the game, but Wilmington answered as Koerner scored a little more than a minute later. Freshman Kiki Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) tallied a first-half marker to bring WC to 5-2 with 17 minutes left in the first half.

The Yellow Jackets rattled off 16 unanswered goals spanning nearly 30 minutes of game action – from 16:39 remaining in the first half to 16:53 left in the second.

Senior Rachel Gutowski (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) and Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) tallied back-to-back goals to round out the Wilmington scoring.

Sophomore Emily Phipps (Heath, OH/Heath) made five saves, facing 25 shots.

Wilmington (0-10 overall, 0-1 OAC) returns to action 4 p.m. Wednesday, facing Capital.
