Koerner nets another hat trick

CINCINNATI – Senior Sammy Koerner tallied her second hat trick of the season Wednesday, but the Wilmington College women's lacrosse team fell to the College of Mount St. Joseph, 22-8, in non-conference action.

Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Badin), who leads the team with seven points, scored once in the first half and twice in the second.

The Lions opened the game by scoring seven of the first eight goals with junior Nichole Angell (Reynoldsburg, OH/Licking Heights) tallying her first career goal. Junior Loryn Bryson (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) added a goal midway through the half to pull WC to within 7-2.

Koerner and freshman Kiki Hall (Westerville, OH/Central) added first half markers, and WC trailed 15-4 at the break.

The teams traded goals to start the second half as Koerner found the back of the net just three minutes into the half. The Mount tacked on five unanswered before Wilmington countered with three of the last four goals.

Sophomore Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana), Koerner and Bryson all scored in the final seven minutes of the game.

Sophomore Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) recorded 14 saves on the game.

Wilmington (0-4) returns to the field 4 p.m. Friday, hosting Franciscan.
