Gutowski, Hall combine for six goals

LAKE BARRINGTON, IL – Senior Rachel Gutowski and freshman Kiki Hall combined for six goals as the Wilmington College women's lacrosse team opened the 2014 season with a 21-7 loss to Beloit in non-conference action at the Lake Barrington Fieldhouse.

"We came out with a lot of energy and gave 100 percent effort," said Wilmington head coach Brett Yenger. "We played with heart and a lot of strength. We need to improve our mental game. We made a lot of mistakes that costs us energ. There were a lot of positives and we did a lot of good things."

Hall (Westerville, OH/Central), who scored the first goal of the game, finished with three goals on five shots, while Gutowski (Petoskey, MI/Petoskey) also tallied three goals on five shots.

Junior Loryn Bryson (Carlisle, OH/Carlisle) scored Wilmington's other goal and sophomore Rachel Routzong (Urbana, OH/Urbana) had the team's lone assist. Sophomore Katie Bennett (Newport, OH/Frontier) made six saves in the loss.  

Beloit scored nine consecutive goals after WC opened the scoring. Gutowski scored back-to-back goal and Hall added a third as Wilmington pulled to within 9-4. Beloit scored 11 of the 13 second-half goals.

Wilmington (0-1) travels to Alma 2 p.m. Thursday for another non-conference game.
