Slow start hampers women's lax

STEUBENVILLE, OH - Rachel Gutowksi (Petoskey, MI) and Kelli Jo Haley (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) each scored twice for Wilmington as the Lady Quakers fell to Franciscan Friday, 17-6.

Franciscan outshot Wilmington, 41-24, while ground ball pick-ups was fairly evenly split between the two schools. Franciscan did jump up to a large first half lead, scoring 10 of the first 12 goals of the game before Haley and Gutowski added their second goals of the opening half.

Sophomore Karalyn Brown (Somerset, NJ/Franklin) notched 11 saves in the loss, while Gutowski and Sammy Koerner (Fairfield, OH/Hamilton Badin) each lead Wilmington's attack with eight shots each resulting in two late goals in the second half.

Wilmington (0-3) will look for its first win of the season when the Quakers host Baldwin Wallace at Gilhart Field 3 p.m. Sunday.
