Women's Basketball Struggles in Loss to La Roche

(WILMINGTON, Ohio) – The Wilmington College women's basketball team concluded the 2023 Fred Raizk Memorial Classic this afternoon with a loss to the La Roche University Redhawks 58-42. The loss drops them to 1-3 overall this season.

The first quarter was all square at 6-6 for over four minutes until freshman Keetyn Hupp knocked down a three to give the Quakers a 9-6 advantage. The first quarter would end with a 9-9 score.

The Redhawks would begin the second quarter on an 8-2 run to give them the 17-11 lead. The Quakers would cut the lead back down to three at 22-19 with 1:24 to play in the half after a ZahKyria Walker three-point play. The score would be in favor of La Roche 25-19 at halftime.

The Redhawks would take a 38-24 lead with 3:59 left in the third quarter, as they looked to pull away with the victory. The Quakers would sneak their way back into the game though, using a 10-3 flurry to end the quarter down seven at 41-34. This run would be fueled by four Sydney Capen points and be capped off by a Bailey Eddleman three with under 10 seconds to play in the quarter.

Four more Quaker points got the fourth quarter started, with a pair of free throws from Stephanie Altstaetter and a Walker layup to push it to 41-38. Unfortunately for the Quakers, a game sealing 12-2 Redhawks rally ensued to make the score 53-40, as they would go on to win the game 58-42.
