Women's Basketball Opens 2019 With Trip to John Carroll Saturday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball opens the New Year with an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) road trip to John Carroll University on Saturday. Tip-off from the Tony DeCarlo Center is slated for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and John Carroll (JCU). The Quakers are 7-5 on the season after splitting a pair of games at the McDonald's Holiday Tournament hosted by Bluffton University. Wilmington, which has won its last two OAC contests, fell to Wheaton College 70-57 and defeated Waynesburg University 81-75. The Blue Streaks are 8-4 overall and 4-1 in OAC play after a come-from-behind 72-66 win at Otterbein University on Wednesday.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 29th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, recently won his 500th career game. Wilmington has claimed seven regular season conference championships under his guidance. Kelly Morrone, a graduate of the University of South Carolina, is in her fifth season leading the JCU women's basketball program.

The Players: A trio of Quakers – McKayla Binkley, Kelly Noll and Kennedy Lewis – all score between 11-13 points per game with Binkley leading the bunch at 12.5 points per contest. Faith Teaford, who scores over eight points a game, grabs a team-high 8.3 boards while Kennedy Lewis dishes out 4.7 assists per game. Nicole Heffington leads JCU in scoring (15.9 points per game) and rebounding (7.4 boards per contest).

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 70.8, JCU 69.8; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 69.2, JCU 61.6; field goal percentage – Wilmington 41.6, JCU 40.0; three-point percentage – Wilmington 37.5, JCU 32.5; free throw percentage – Wilmington 73.2, JCU 58.7; rebounds per game – Wilmington 41.9, JCU 40.8; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 1.01, JCU 0.80.

OAC Player of the Week: Kelly Noll is the reigning OAC Player of the Week. The junior scored a career-high 27 points on 9-of-12 shooting in Wilmington's 79-72 win over Marietta last month.
