Women's Basketball Takes on ONU in First OAC Road Game Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team travels to Ohio Northern University (ONU) for a 7 p.m. Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) contest on Wednesday evening.

The Teams: Wilmington and ONU. Both teams are looking to rebound after losses in their respective OAC openers. The Quakers (4-2) fell to Heidelberg University 74-70 at home on Saturday while the Polar Bears (5-1) lost the University of Mount Union on the road 77-58 on Saturday.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 29th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, recently won his 500th career game. Wilmington has claimed seven regular season conference championships under his guidance. Michele Durand has been ONU's head women's basketball coach for 17 seasons. The Polar Bears have won the last four OAC regular season titles under her guidance.

The Players: Wilmington features a balanced scoring attack as three Quakers – McKayla Binkley, Kennedy Lewis, and Faith Teaford – all average double figures in scoring while Kelly Noll, Hannah Binkley and Savannah Hooper all score between 7-9 points per game. Teaford averages a double-double per game as the sophomore grabs 10.2 rebounds per contest. Noll and McKayla Binkley both grab over four rebounds as well while Kennedy Lewis dishes out a team-high 4.2 assists per game. Jenna Dirksen is the lone Polar Bear to average double figures in scoring at 15.2 points per game. Emily Mescher, Abby Weeks and Emily Brock all score between 7-9 points per contest. Mescher, Alyssa Manley, Tori Wyss and Sydney Ward all grab exactly five rebounds a game for ONU.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 72.5, ONU 71.5; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 66.3, ONU 57.0; field goal percentage – Wilmington 42.7, ONU 43.6; three-point percentage – Wilmington 38.9, ONU 36.1; free throw percentage – Wilmington 72.0, ONU 77.5; rebounds per game – Wilmington 45.2, ONU 46.8; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 0.93, ONU 1.08.

500 Victories: With Wilmington's 71-57 win at Earlham last Wednesday, Head Coach Jerry Scheve became the 32nd individual and 19th active coach in NCAA Division III Women's Basketball to cross the 500-win plateau.
