Women's Basketball Hosts Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament This Weekend

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team hosts the 13th annual Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament this weekend.

The Tournament: Wilmington will face North Central College (Illinois) on Saturday at 6 p.m. followed by Centre College and Hanover College at 8 p.m. The consolation final will be played the following day at 1 p.m. with the championship game slated for 3 p.m. on Sunday.

The Teams: Wilmington, North Central, Centre and Hanover. The Fightin' Quakers are an even 1-1 on the season after defeating Grove City College 75-55 and falling to Kenyon College 65-57 at the Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Tournament last weekend. The Cardinals also stand at 1-1 after falling 69-67 at Benedictine University on Tuesday. The Colonels are 3-0 after a 45-39 win at Spalding University while the Panthers are 1-1 after losing to nationally-ranked Wheaton College (Illinois) 82-71 on Saturday.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 29th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, has amassed over 450 career victories. Maggie McCloskey-Bax, the former assistant at Carthage College, is in her first year as head coach at North Central. Wendie Austin-Robinson, a 1994 graduate of Centre, has been her alma mater's head coach since the 2005-06 season while Jon Jones is in his fourth season as Hanover's head coach.

The Players: McKayla Binkley (13.0 points per game) and Kelly Noll (11.0 points per game) both average in double figures in scoring for Wilmington while four other Quakers score at least eight points per game. Faith Teaford leads the squad in rebounding at 8.0 boards per contest while Binkley and Kennedy Lewis both dish out four assists per contest. Alana Newsome and Tyonne Howard combine for 25.5 points per game for North Central while the Colonel duo of Kat Wilson and Abigail Stewart average 24.3 points per game. Alexis Nall and Maleha Motter both score at least 15.0 points per game for Hanover.

Canned Food Drive: The Wilmington College Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is running a canned food drive this weekend. Bring a canned food item to receive admission to the tournament.

Recent History: Wilmington has not played North Central since becoming an NCAA Division III member prior to the 1991-92 season. The Quakers are 3-0 against Centre and 4-1 against Hanover during that time. More information on the series history can be found by visiting the link above.
