Women's Basketball Hosting Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament This Week

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College women's basketball team hosts the Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament at Hermann Court on Tuesday-Thursday, Dec. 19-21.

The Schedule: The 2017 Fred Raizk Memorial Tournament was originally a four-team tournament, but had to audible to a three-team tournament when St. Norbert College cancelled 10 games of its season. Wilmington will face Earlham College at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and the University of Chicago at 1 p.m. on Thursday. Earlham and Chicago will tip-off at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

The Teams: Wilmington, Earlham and Chicago. The Fightin' Quakers are 5-3 overall after an 87-72 loss at No. 21 Marietta College on Saturday. The Hustlin' Quakers are 1-7 overall and most recently fell 63-48 at Mount St. Joseph University. The Maroons are 6-2 and won four consecutive games.

The Coaches: Jerry Scheve is in his 28th season as head coach of the Wilmington women's basketball program. Scheve, who guided the Quakers to the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2004, has amassed over 450 career victories. Shauna Watson, a 2015 Hanover College graduate, is in her first season as head coach at Earlham while Carissa Sain Knoche is in her 10th season on the Chicago sidelines including her sixth as head coach.

The Players: Mackenzie Campbell leads Wilmington in scoring at 14.5 points per game and rebounding by grabbing 6.4 boards per contest. McKayla Binkley also scores in double figures at 10.0 points per game while Emily Harman grabs over six boards per contest. Campbell, Binkley and Savannah Hooper all dish out at least two assists a game. Zoe Curtis leads Earlham offensively to the tune of 13.3 points per game while Taylor Lake and Mia Farrell both score 14.0 points per contest for Chicago.

Tale of the Tape: Points per game – Wilmington 71.5, Earlham 58.1, Chicago 75.9; opponents' points per game – Wilmington 70.1, Earlham 70.3, Chicago 62.2; field goal percentage – Wilmington 42.4, Earlham 35.8, Chicago 40.6; three-point percentage – Wilmington 35.2, Earlham 22.1, Chicago 32.2; free throw percentage – Wilmington 77.9, Earlham 66.7, Chicago 74.5; rebounds per game – Wilmington 40.5, Earlham 39.4, Chicago 44.2; assist-to-turnover ratio – Wilmington 72.3, Earlham 0.60, Chicago 0.69.

Quaker Bowl: Wilmington and Earlham, who are both nicknamed Quakers, re-created the Quaker Bowl rivalry as a traveling trophy between the two schools. Wilmington currently holds a 3-1 lead in the 2017-18 series thanks to victories in football, men's soccer and women's soccer.

Recent History: Wilmington is 2-1 against Earlham in the last decade including winning the last two games by 12 and 11 points respectively. Wilmington has not played Chicago in the last 10 seasons.
