BEXLEY – The Wilmington College women's basketball allowed 18 of the first 20 points, and they fell to Capital Wednesday, 57-43, in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Capital Center.
"We were not ready to play," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "We were not ready to compete at the level we needed to tonight, and that was for a lot of different reasons. We simply were not ready to play. Capital played harder than we did.
"Basketball is a simple game that our team plays well," Scheve continued. "We just didn't do it tonight."
Wilmington shot just seven percent in the first quarter, and just 19 percent in the first half in falling behind 22-11. As a team, the Fightin' Quakers finished 16-of-51 (31.4 percent) from the field, but just 3-of-19 (15.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
Sophomore Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) finished with 18 points and five rebounds, while senior Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) added seven points.
Senior Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton Massie) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Wilmington (7-5 overall, 3-2 OAC) hosts Baldwin Wallace (11-1 overall, 4-1 OAC) 3 p.m. Saturday. The Yellow Jackets are coming off their first loss of the season, falling to Mount Union 72-62.
