Campbell named Freshman of the Year

AUSTINTOWN – Two Wilmington College women's basketball players have earned all-conference designation from the Ohio Athletic Conference, the league announced today (March 2, 2016).

"Brittany and Mackenzie both had outstanding seasons, and are more than deserving of these awards," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "Brittany had to adapt to a new position as point guard, and did an excellent job. Mackenzie had as fine a freshman season as anyone we have had. They are both outstanding people who I really enjoy coaching. And maybe the best thing is, they will both be back next year."

Freshman Mackenzie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH/Turpin) earned second team honors, and was named the 2015-16 Ohio Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.

Campbell was third in the Ohio Athletic Conference in scoring with 14.9 points per game, while shooting 49.5 percent from the field. The shooting percentage was third in the league, and first amongst OAC perimeter players.

Her 401 points were the most by any Wilmington freshman in the school's NCAA-era. Campbell added 6.4 rebounds per game, leading all OAC freshmen. It was second on the team and 11th in the league.

For the second straight season, Brittaney Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) earned honorable mention honors from the league despite finishing fifth in the league with 14.3 points per game. She added 4.7 rebounds, a team-high 2.5 assists and a team-high 1.7 steals.
