Jefferson takes over, leads LQB to victory

NEW CONCORD, OH – Just when the Wilmington College women's basketball team needed a spark, sophomore Brittaney Jefferson took over the game.

Jefferson (Dayton, OH/Chaminade Julienne) scored seven of Wilmington's first nine points during the game-changing 31-4 second-half run as the Fightin' Quakers defeated Muskingum, 74-60, in Ohio Athletic Conference action.

The sophomore guard scored 17 of the team's 31 points in the run.

"Their press gave us a little trouble until we made a little adjustment," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "Then, Brittaney Jefferson took over the game. She played her best game as a Lady Quaker. She was definitely the catalyst to that run."

Jefferson finished with a career-high 26 points on 7-of-12 shooting, including 9-of-12 from the foul line. She added seven rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Muskingum opened the game hitting six of its first nine shots, including four three-points, to take a double-figure lead six minutes into the game.

"We didn't make shots early, but we didn't panic," said Scheve. "We just played our game. They didn't have much depth, and I think we wore them down."

The Fightin' Quakers slowed battled back and following Mary Moyer's (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) lay-up with 2:02 remaining, the game was tied at 25. The Muskies took a lead into halftime and built its advantage to four in the second half before the aforementioned run.

Moyer finished with 15 points and eight rebounds, while senior Courtney Tucker (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) added 11 points, six steals, three assists and two rebounds. Junior Ashley Andracki (Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) tallied 10 points and sophomore Hannah Haeseker (Germantown, OH/Valley View) pulled down 10 boards.

Wilmington (9-6 overall, 4-4 OAC) hosts Otterbein 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Fred Raizk Arena in Hermann Court.
