Women's basketball commits 28 turnovers in loss

For the second straight game, the Wilmington College women's basketball team committed a season-high total in turnovers; and for the second straight game, they suffered a loss.

The Fightin' Quakers faced constant, swarming pressure for nearly 40 minutes, and committed 28 turnovers in falling to NAIA nationally ranked Point Park, 79-57, Tuesday in non-conference action at Fred Raizk Arena at Hermann Court.

"We weren't able to handle the pressure early in the game, and when were able to handle it we missed shots in the second half," said Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve. "That was really the game. We made some adjustments in the first half and started handling the pressure a little better."

Wilmington, which trailed by just six at halftime, shot just 27.6 percent in the second half. It was outscored 39-23 in the last 20 minutes.

"I felt we were in good shape in the first half," said Scheve. "We came out in the second half and did some things from an execution standpoint, and got easy shots. But we didn't make them, and it kept us in the six, eight-point range. We just couldn't get a run going because we couldn't make a shot. Then, they had a run and we couldn't answer."

Point Park trapped constantly, and early on, WC didn't handle the swarming black jersey's well. Wilmington committed 17 of its turnovers in the first 20 minutes.

Sophomore Mary Moyer (Martinsville, OH/Clinton-Massie) led the team with 14 points, six rebounds and four steals, while senior Courtney Tucker (Cincinnati, OH/Sycamore) added 10 points and four rebounds. Junior Alexandria Kingsbery (Lima, OH/Central Catholic) chipped in a career-high eight points. Point guards Ashley Andracki (Columbus, OH/Bishop Watterson) and Ellie Kivell (Hamilton, OH/Lakota West) dished out three assists each.

Wilmington (6-2 overall) returns to Ohio Athletic Conference play 3 p.m. Saturday, traveling to Baldwin Wallace.
