Softball Looks to Extend Three-Game Winning Streak at Capital on Wednesday

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Wilmington College softball team takes a three-game winning streak to an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) series at Capital University on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.

The Teams: Wilmington and Capital. The Fightin' Quakers are 17-9 overall and 5-7 in conference play after sweeping Marietta College for the first time in over a decade on Saturday. The Crusaders are 10-24 overall and 2-8 in OAC competition after falling in two games at home to Otterbein University on Saturday.

The Coaches: Beth Floyd is in her 12th season as Wilmington's softball head coach. She is the winningest softball coach in school history and is also the College's associate director of athletics. Floyd has led the Quakers to seven double-digit win campaigns as well as the program's first winning season with a 20-16 record in 2013. Nan Payne, a graduate of the University of Michigan is in her 21st season at Capital and is closing in on 500 career victories.

The Hitters: Hayley Suchland leads Wilmington in batting average as the freshman hits a .405 clip as well as leading the squad in hits with 34 and stolen bases with nine. Allison Pierce has driven in 17 runs to go along with nine doubles and a .381 batting average. KenDahl Bowles, Alecia Kemp and Jillia Cook have all driven in at least 15 runs. Kristen Mellott leads Capital with 21 RBIs while Alyx Slusher has 17 doubles along with a team-best 23 walks.

The Pitchers: Grace Shell and Alexis Stringfellow have been Wilmington's one-two punch this season as both have won at least six games and have ERAs under 3.25. Shell has a team-high 83 innings pitched to go along with 73 strikeouts while Stringfellow has a 3.16 ERA in 44.1 innings pitched. Brianna Reardon has pitched nearly half (103.1 innings) of Capital's innings in the circle and carries a 4.54 ERA and a 7-11 record.

Series History: Wilmington is 5-15 against Capital in the last decade, though the Fightin' Quakers have won the last two meetings. More information on the series history can be viewed by visiting the link above.
